Undergraudate Program in Speech Pathology & Audiology

The Department of Speech Pathology and Audiology in the School of Allied Health Professions offers courses of study leading to the Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Speech Pathology and Audiology. This program is pre-professional and is not designed to prepare students for employment as speech-language pathologists or audiologists. Additional steps, including completion of a graduate degree and the clinical fellowship year, are required for state licensure and certification by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA). Courses in this major are structured to provide students with background information, theories, principles, and techniques for diagnosis and remediation of speech, language, and hearing disorders. Clinical experience under supervision is also provided.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Interested individuals must:

Apply for admission to the University (and for financial aid if desired)

Be screened for disorders of communication

Show steady growth in their development of vocabulary, reading, speaking, and writing skills.

Once accepted and enrolled in the undergraduate program, students must:

Maintain a minimum GPA of 2.0

Maintain grades of C or above in major courses

Demonstrate satisfactory progress in the academic and practicum programs
